The Coffs Cup Carnival
Quite possibly the largest social event of the year, the Carlton
Draught Gold Cup Carnival is hosted by the Coffs Harbour Racing Club.
The Gold Cup Carnival is usually held in early August. With plenty of
entertainment for children and adults alike, it is a great day to bring
the family for an outing sure to please everyone. Prices are pleasing to
the pocketbook, with adult admission to the Community Cups Day usually
just $10.00 and children under 16 free.
On the second day of the Carnival is the Hospitality Sprint with a
$15,000 purse! In 2008, on the third day, an “R-Rated” Sportsman’s
Breakfast included racing legend Malcolm Johnston and Rugby legend Tommy
Raudonikis. While local horses did their morning workouts, celebrities
passed on their tales of other races and fun they have had on and off
the track.
The fourth day of the cup is the big day! It is such a major event
that many of the local businesses offer a half-day holiday to their
employees. In 2008, the Carlton Draught Coffs Harbour Cup offers $70,000
in prize money.
With over $180,000 of total prize money to be had during the three
days of racing, bookmakers will be easy to find. Catering and beverage
outlets are as abundant as the big screen televisions so that not a
single second of the excitement is missed.
Many prizes will be offered when Fashions are Revealed at the on the
Field Competition. Although there are plenty of events for all family
members throughout the carnival days, the youngsters under 18 will not
be admitted to the actual Cup Race.
Take a couple of days and participate in the largest social event of
the year. You will not be disappointed.
